A Bench Top Carvers Base

I recently came across this idea which involves a series of insert nuts, set into the workbench with joint connector bolts and a big wooden washer, used to secure the workpiece. (See Picture on Left).

I adapted this idea by setting the "insert nuts" into a  piece of  25mmm plywood.  The baseboard sits on top of my bench, held between two bench dogs and my vice. The connector bolts work ok, but having to use an Allan key is a bit of a fiddle.  A normal M6 bolt in a socket is easier to screw in.

I have used this on a few occassions but I find the  need to use an Allan Key a bit of a fiddle and time consuming.  The toggle clamp is a better option!
